About Us
The founder of Metropolitan Walks is Andrew D. Smith, a New Jersey native who spent much of his childhood begging his parents to drive him into New York.
Andrew began buying books about the city shortly after he learned to read and started devising walking tours for family and friends while still in middle school.
It occurred to him only recently that strangers might pay him money for such efforts.
Andrew believes the best New York walking tours combine exciting narrative with rich information. Visitors and residents both want to understand what makes New York special, but the learning process shouldn't feel like a chore.
If Andrew does his job properly, you'll spend two hours laughing at funny stories without noticing how much you're learning.
When Andrew isn’t conducting walking tours, he occupies himself by walking solo around New York or reading about its history, architecture, and people.
He spends his vacations walking around London, Paris, and any other interesting city he can convince his wife, Karen, to visit.
